Department Information

Department of Otorhinolaryngology is established in 1956 at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital (District Headquarter Hospital at that time). In 2010, when Sahiwal Medical College was established and hospital is declared as Tertiary Care Hospital, 22 beds were allocated for the Department under supervision of Dr. Shahid Ali, District ENT Surgeon. Ultimately faculty was approved in 2016 and seats were announced in 2017, and the faculty includes Dr. Muhammad Tariq as Professor and HOD, Dr. Yousaf Salemi as Associate Professor and Dr. Shahid Ali as Assistant Professor. Now Dr. Shahid Ali is serving as Associate Professor and Head of Department and become a supervisor for CPSP and UHS for FCPS and MS ENT.

Department Achievements

• • The Department got Accreditation from the University of Health Sciences Lahore and College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan
• The Department is providing comprehensive care in General ENT Outpatients, Emergency services round the clock and elective surgery facilities in ear, nose, throat, head and neck area
• Modern Surgical Techniques like FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery), Ear Surgeries (Mastoidectomy, Tympanoplasties), Tumor surgeries and Head & Neck Surgery, are established now in this Department
• On an average 634 major operations are performed despite very minimum infrastructure and with only One Faculty Member and around 13500 cases are seen annually in OPD

Educational Facilities

Morning Class by Consultant, Ward Teaching Rounds, Case base Discussions and Presentations by PGRs and HOs is the Teaching Schedule followed in a week. Research culture is prevalent in the department. At the same time, ENT Department has become the center for CME activities. Regular clinical meetings are providing the latest evidence-based and clinical guidelines to the ENT specialists of the Sahiwal region. Guest speakers from other parts of the country and abroad are invited to these meetings. ENT Department at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital is the only public sector referral hospital between Lahore and Multan

Future Vision

ENT department repeats the persuasion of continuing its commitment to excellence in service. Laser surgery and Cochlear Implant Surgery projects are in the channel. ENT department is looking forward to start Postgraduate training in Head & Neck Supra-specialty.
