Department Information

The Department of Gynae and Obstetrics, Infertility Management, Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal. Aims at providing high standards of Gynae and Obstetrics care, Infertility Management, Safe Motherhood and to develop women health program that is internationally recognized for excellence in education, research and clinical care at the attached DHQ Hospital. Presently, the department has two units and have faculty members including a Professor, 02 Associate Professor and 02 Assistant Professor. The Department of Gynae and Obstetrics in DHQ Hospital is staffed by 02 Senior Registrar,01 Specialists,02 Medical Officers. The Department of Gynae and Obstetrics was established in July 2015 with Professor Dr Shagufta Tahir as the first head. The incumbent Head, Dr Safia Azhar, Professor of Gynae & Obstetrics, took over as Head on January 2019.

Department Achievements

• Department recoganized for FCPS,MCPS&MS training
• Induction of FCPS,MCPS&MS trainees
• Now two supervisors for training of FCPS,MCPS&MS
• PGRs:FCPS=8 MS=7 3 FCPS &1 MCPS trainee passed part 2 examination All eligible candidates passed IMM&Abridge examination
• We gave 100% passing rate in 2021 annual final year examination and 20 distinctions
• Publication by faculty of unit -1 =30 Ongoing projects=10 Provision of Laparoscope and hysteroscope and start of endoscopic surgeries
• Extention of building and it is near completion
• Enhancement of bed strength
• Establishment of HDU &skill labs
• Conduction of various workshops,seminars &symposiums

Educational Facilities

The Department is actively involved in clinical research. The Department has organized workshop on fistula awareness in 2015,workshop on MVA and Safe Abortion in 2016,Labour Ward Protocol In 2016,PUGA Conference in 2018,Workshop on Safe Hysterectomy in 2018,Workshop on perineal Tear Repair in2018,workshop on cervical carcinoma screening in 2019 and Maternal Resuscitation in 2019.The Department encouraged its faculty to enhance their skill and knowledge and support them in attending different Medical Symposium, Seminars and Workshops as part of their continuing medical education. Work on various research projects is undertaken now. More than research papers from the department have been published in prestigious medical journals.

Study Plan

A Post Graduate training program for MCPS, FCPS and MS is in operation since 2016 and though we are still very young but our achievements foresee a very bright future. Presently about 17 doctors undergoing training in FCPS and 04 for MS. The Department also organizes lectures for Final Year, Fourth Year and Third year students of Sahiwal Medical College (SLMC).
