Department Information

The Department of surgery thrives because of the dedication and commitment of teams who truly believe in multi-disciplinary approach towards education research and patient care. We have experienced some great achievements with limited resources through the development of emerging technologies and processes that are transforming surgical practice. DHQ Hospital Sahiwal was established in 1960. After establishment of Sahiwal Medical College, it became affiliated with Medical College in 2010. It is providing tertiary care facilities and the only major tertiary care hospital in the area between Multan to Lahore. It is a 500 bedded hospital. There are 2 surgical units for smooth functionality and to manage emergency workload. surgical unit I is having a team of dedicated doctors who are providing best facilities for the health and well being and setting standards in patient care, producing best professionals and aimed to get climax in academics and research and leaving no stone unturned to improve undergraduates learning.

Educational Facilities

Introduction of laparoscopy in the department which lead to the provision of conventional and advance laparoscopic procedures and training of post graduates residents and fellows. Complex and complicated elective surgeries started like oncological surgeries e.g. GI malignancies, surgery of adnexal pathologies, complex head, neck and chest surgeries, complex endocrine surgeries, breast surgeries, advance hepatobiliary and vascular surgeries. Surgical emergency and trauma started in proper emergency block with 24/7 coverage. (previously surgical emergency was directly attended in the ward). Complex emergency surgeries like blunt and penetrating trauma laparotomies.

Study Plan

By this time, it is a fully functional teaching surgical department providing teaching facilities to the undergraduate students of Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal and surgical training to house officers and post graduate residents of FCPS/MS.

Future Vision

Complex emergency surgeries like blunt and penetrating trauma laparotomies. Addition of High dependency unit in ward with extended monitoring and management facilities.
