Department Information

History dates back to 2010 when Paediatric surgical patients were admitted randomly in general surgery department under care of Dr.Shafiq UR Rehman Langriyal, Paediatric Surgeon. In 2013, 8 beds were allocated for the department under supervision of consultant paediatric surgeon.
Ultimately faculty was approved in 2016 and seats were announced in 2017 for the position of Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Senior Registrar ,one for each but unluckily vacancy for Associate Professor remained vacant and was filled in May 2021. The Department of Paediatric Surgery, Sahiwal Teaching Hospital is located in Rehmatullil Alameen block on second floor .working as one of the most efficient departments of this hospital. At present it is 20-bedded ,including HDU and Nursery. It provides outdoor services thrice a week, elective surgeries list once weekly, and emergency services 24/7. Cases of Paediatric General Surgery, Paediatric Urology, Paediatric Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Neurosurgery and Neonatal Surgery are safely dealt in the department. As an average 700 operation are performed despite very minimum infrastructure and around 4000 cases are seen annually in OPD.

Department Achievements

• The department of Paediatric surgery was accredited by CPSP, PMC and UHS for FCPS Part-2 and MS training in Paediatric Surgery in 2021
• Three PGRs have joined the department in consective two inductions, 02 for MS and one for FCPS part-2 training in Paediatric Surgery
• The department presented research papers in Paediatric and Neonatology Conference from Paris France for consective last 02 years
• Around 20 papers were published in National and International Journals in last 04 years
