Department Information

The Anatomy Department of Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal was Established in 2011 & was Initially adjusted temporarily in a Building of DHQ Hospital Sahiwal (presently Sahiwal Teaching Hospital Sahiwal). In 2014, the Department was shifted to new state of the art building of current mpus at Medical College Road, Sahiwal opp. Divisional Public School & College, Sahiwal with dedicated 2 floor space as per yard stick of Pakistan Medical Commission (formerly PMDC). The department was established by Dr. Bashir Ahmed Janjua, Associate Professor, a pioneer Head of the Department as he was deputed here in 2011 till 20.03.2012 and again from 02.03.2013 to 03.02.2014. Prof. Dr Tauqeer Ahmad has also served as the Head of Department of Anatomy from 21.03.2012 to 01.03.2013. Latter Dr. Shafiq Ullah, Dr. Farhana Sajjad Dr. Hafiz Moeean ud Din Chishti had performed their duties as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department in different periods. Prof. Dr. Nabila Kokab, has performed her duties as HOD Anatomy from 07.07.2014 to 04.02.2015 followed by Dr. Mian Azhar Ahmad and Dr. Aliya Zahid had contributed their part in progress of the Department as Associate Professor & HOD.

Educational Facilities

The department has Purpose Built Building with Demonstration Room, Museum, Mortuary, Dissections Hall, Specimen Laboratory, Histology Lab, Offices of Doctors and paramedical staff. The department had Anatomy Charts/ Models and museum of the department is most impressive one, having Models, Bone Specimens, Instruments, Specimen etc.

Study Plan

In Anatomy Department undergraduate students of 1st and 2nd years are involved. These students of each class are divided into three groups. We have a small group discussion with one of these groups, the other group visits the museum to study Anatomy from charts and models while the third group goes to the dissection hall to identify the structures from prosected specimens. While one class is busy studying Gross Anatomy, the other class in groups is performing histology practicals in the histology laboratory. Besides this, both classes have plenary sessions in the form of seminars and lectures on Embryology, Histology, Neuroanatomy, and Gross anatomy.

Future Vision

To uplift the Anatomy department as a state-of-the-art center for undergraduate students of MBBS and other disciplines like BDS and DPT as well as postgraduate studies like M. Phil and FCPS (Anatomy)after getting it recognized from UHS and CPSP.
