Department Information

The department of Physiology was established 10 years ago and Prof. Dr. Shehbaz Ashfaq was appointed as first head of department who rendered the remarkable services for the department and as well as for the college. One of the girls hostels has also been recently named on her name in the recognition of herservices by Ex Principal Prof. Dr. Zahid Kamal Siddiqui on recommendation of college academic council. In our department one post of professor is lying vacant. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Saeed is working as Associate Professor and acting head of Department. One slot of AP in the department is under the process of Approval in Health Department for the last two years. "Prof. Dr. M. Rashad Qamar Rao" joined this institute on 5.06.2021 as Principal and he took keen interest in up-gradation of curriculum and research by the Department of Medical Education. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Saeed was appointed as Chairman Institution Curriculum Committee and Dr. Nauman Aziz (Assistant Professor Physiology) as deputy director PGT cell which shows the trust of worthy Principal on abilities of the faculty of Physiology. The Department of Physiology worked with zeal and we succeeded in the development of Modular System and Annual Academic Calendar for the coming first year class of 2021-22.The hard work of Dr. Nauman Aziz and Dr. Hafiza Swaiba Afzal this regard is highly appreciable.

Department Achievements

• Worked for modular system and prepared Annual Academic Calendar for First Year MBBS f 2021-22 sessions
• Teaching Physiology to MBBS First & Second Year classes In Feb, 2021 an interactive lecture was arranged on CVS for 1st Year MBBS by Dr
• Mishin Cheg from Malaysia
• In March 2021 1st Virtual Physiology conference of SLMC was conducted by the Physiology department under the leadership of Prof Dr Zahid Kamal Siddiqui it proved to be huge success as shown by feedback of the participants
• • In 2017 the department of Physiology was also recognized by CPSP for FCPS training at SLMC

Educational Facilities

The department is keenly interested in the Research work. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Saeed (HOD) has 13 publications in my credit among which 3 are published in international journals. Dr. Nauman Aziz has 18 research papers in his credit and he was also awarded the best researcher among faculty members for the year 2020. Dr. Hafiza Swaiba Afzal has 9 publications in her credit. .

Study Plan

We deliver lectures to the students and then the discussions on their topics are done in tutorials. The practicals are conducted on daily basis (3 days each for 1st year and second year according to their batches) in a week

Future Vision

Under the Visionary leadership of Dr. Muhammad Shahid Saeed the department of Physiology is striving to bring improved standards of medical education at SLMC. We are also planning to get our department recognized by UHS Lahore for commencement of MPhil and PhD programs in Physiology at SLMC.
